This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to trace the evolution of the Spezial line and appreciate its design legacy
Adidas is celebrating the Spezial (SPZL) with a grand event titled DECADE in Blackburn, England. The exhibition, curated by brand consultant and adidas collaborator Gary Aspden, will feature the entire SPZL sneaker archive, alongside unseen design sketches and the shoe’s inspirations from the 1970s. The event will highlight the shoe’s unique characteristics, such as its narrower toe box and more flexible gumsole, showcasing its timeless appeal and versatility.
DECADE will also include a series of special workshops and programs, such as a five-day educational session by bespoke shoemaker Blunt Shank and a Q&A with Aspden and film director Nick Griffiths. Entertainment will be provided by Shaun Ryder’s Black Grape and DJ sets from Mani of The Stone Roses and Stereo MC’s.
Additionally, the event will feature the release of the SPZL DECADE book and a limited edition SPZL x Nightsafe sneaker, with only 100 pairs available and all proceeds going to Nightsafe, a charity supporting homeless youth. DECADE will be open from May 17 to 26 at 14 Market Street, Darwen, UK.
