Renowned Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei has teamed up with JRP Editions to release three limited edition lithographic prints. Similar to his recent collaboration with Avant Arte, each version of “Grass Mud Horse” features a two-color palette with an array of surveillance cameras spiraling throughout the composition.
Ai Weiwei is known for his provocative and outspoken artistry. His notable works include the “Study of Perspective” series (1995-2003), where he raises his middle finger to landmarks, and his installation in the Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, where he covered the floor with millions of porcelain seeds to comment on the ‘Made in China’ phenomenon and modern geopolitics. Weiwei uses his art to critique global power imbalances.
“Ai Weiwei is an inspiration to people fighting against oppression the world over,” said Tirana Hassan, executive director of Human Rights Watch. “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with him again and to partner on his very first lithographic editions.”
Collectors can purchase each iteration of “Grass Mud Horse,” limited to 99 editions, measuring 23.62 x 23.62 inches, and printed on BFK Rives 300gsm paper using Voirin lithographic press. The prints, priced at $1,650 USD, are signed and numbered by the artist. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Human Rights Watch, a New York-based NGO that investigates and reports on global human rights abuses.
