Aino Aalto’s Timeless Design Revival: Tekla and Artek Unveil Exquisite Bedding Collection
In celebration of Aino Aalto’s 130th birthday, Tekla and Artek have joined forces to create a limited-edition bedding collection that embodies the Finnish designer’s iconic style. This collaboration marks a new chapter in the story of Aalto’s enduring legacy, as her beloved Kirsikankukka pattern is reimagined for a new generation.
Aino Aalto was a true pioneer in the world of design. As a founder of Artek, she played a crucial role in shaping the company’s distinct style, emphasising textiles and natural materials. Her designs were characterised by simplicity, functionality, and a deep respect for the beauty of everyday life. Aalto’s creative vision was instrumental in establishing Artek’s ethos, which inspires designers worldwide.
The Kirsikankukka pattern, designed by Aalto in the 1930s, is a masterpiece of minimalist design. Inspired by a Japanese silk fabric gifted to her by the Japanese ambassador to Finland, the pattern features a delicate cherry blossom motif that has become an iconic representation of Finnish design. The pattern’s abstract floral design is elegant and understated, perfecting Tekla’s modern and straightforward design philosophy.
The limited-edition collection includes high-quality percale cotton bedding in white, blue, and pink. The bedding is available in various sizes, including a kids’ collection with the same elegant design as the adult range. The collection is a testament to both brands’ dedication to creating functional homeware that enhances everyday living.
The collection will debut during the 3daysofdesign event in Copenhagen, with an exhibition at Tekla Copenhagen and simultaneous showcases at Artek’s Helsinki and Tokyo stores. The launch will also feature a campaign by Norwegian photographer Ola Rindal, capturing the collection’s essence amidst original Artek pieces at the Aaltos’ home in Helsinki.
Starting June 12, at 2 P.M. CET, the collection will be available exclusively at Tekla Fabrics, Tekla Copenhagen, and Artek stores in Helsinki and Tokyo. Adult bedding pieces will be sold individually, allowing for personal expression and easy mixing with Tekla’s core collection. The kids’ collection will be sold as a set, priced at $160 USD.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to own a piece of design history. The Aino Aalto x Tekla x Artek collection is a must-have for anyone who appreciates timeless design, functionality, and the beauty of everyday life. Mark your calendars for June 12, and get ready to shop!
