In late 2023, Vancouver, British Columbia welcomed a chic addition to its culinary scene with the opening of AMA, a cocktail lounge, and raw bar. What sets this establishment apart is its futuristic ambiance, drawing inspiration from the visually stunning world of “Blade Runner 2049.”
Beyond the gripping storylines, one of the defining features of science fiction films is their imaginative design work, rarely encountered in our everyday lives. Bringing these concepts to life in a real-world setting creates a truly magical experience. Designed by Canadian firm &Daughters, AMA’s 52-seat restaurant is nestled discreetly in a two-story 1970s Vancouver walk-up, offering a hidden gem away from the bustling streets.
Stepping inside AMA, guests are enveloped in a golden haze reminiscent of Denis Villeneuve’s futuristic masterpiece. The primary light source, emanating from the perimeter wall, casts a diffused glow that seems to suspend and accelerate time, adding to the venue’s otherworldly allure. Venetian plaster walls, plush velvet curtains and banquettes, vinyl flooring, semi-transparent golden mirrors, and intricate metal details further enhance the immersive atmosphere.
Central to AMA’s design is its square U-shaped bar, featuring polished black granite, serving as a focal point for socializing and savoring expertly crafted cocktails. From the wine wall to the coat check area, every corner of the space is seamlessly integrated with futuristic style, inviting guests to indulge in a fantasy world brought to life.
