American artist Andy Rementer is set to debut a new pop-up exhibition at VINS Gallery in Taiwan later this week. Opening on Friday, June 28, the four-day show will feature a series of new paintings and two limited edition sculptures titled “Beverly” and “Sunset.”
Based in Philadelphia, Rementer is renowned for his graphic compositions of pensive characters in domestic settings. His use of vibrant colors and simplified shapes gives his work an initially cheerful appearance, but a closer look often reveals darker undertones. Inspired by European art history, from the Italian Renaissance to artists like Fernand Léger and Nathalie du Pasquier, Rementer blends these influences with his Neo-Pop style and background in classic sign painting, creating visually pleasing images that encourage deeper reflection. “I’m always drawn to stories that convey something difficult to say,” Rementer has previously noted.
The limited edition sculptures, “Beverly” and “Sunset,” are inspired by his paintings made in Los Angeles, depicting two female figures languidly perched against a cactus. Each sculpture is limited to an edition of 50 and will be available for purchase via raffle during the four-day pop-up, which ends on July 1, 2024. Winners will be announced by email on July 3.
