Anne Hathaway is reportedly in discussions to reprise her iconic role in the upcoming sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada.” She is set to join original cast members Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, according to multiple sources as of July 2024.
Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, known for penning the 2006 fashion comedy, is crafting the script for Disney’s follow-up film. Producer Wendy Finerman and director David Frankel, who helmed the original, are also slated to return.
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel, The Devil Wears Prada follows Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, who lands a job with Runway magazine editor Miranda Priestly, played by Streep. The story highlights Andy’s tumultuous journey in the demanding fashion industry, contrasting with Emily Charlton, played by Blunt, who remains steadfast in the high-pressure world at Miranda’s side.
Recalling the film’s production, Frankel shared in a 2021 EW interview marking the 15th anniversary, “The first time Meryl was Miranda Priestly was in a meeting with the head of the studio. Meryl channeled Miranda in that meeting, and there was no conversation about the hair; they looked into Meryl’s eyes and never said a word.”
It remains uncertain whether Adrian Grenier, who portrayed Hathaway’s on-screen boyfriend, will return for the sequel. Hathaway herself has expressed uncertainty about the sequel’s prospects, noting the significant changes in the media landscape since the original film’s release.
As of July 2024, no release date has been confirmed for The Devil Wears Prada sequel. Fans eagerly await more news about the return of this beloved cast and the next chapter in the fashionable saga.
