Armie Hammer’s Hollywood career came to a sudden halt in 2021 after facing accusations of sexual abuse. More than two years later, the LA District Attorney’s investigation concluded with no charges due to “insufficient evidence.”
Despite these challenging times, Hammer has reflected on his journey and recently spoke about his path to sobriety and happiness. In an appearance on Bill Maher’s Club Random, Hammer revealed that he is now sober after entering rehab to address his addictions to drugs, alcohol, and sex. He credited therapy as a “life changer” and shared that he learned true happiness doesn’t come from material possessions.
“I’ve never been happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life,” Hammer said. “The good place only comes from walking through hell. It was a brutal experience.”
Reflecting on the allegations and their impact, Hammer discussed the concept of needing to “die and be reborn” to find true happiness, referencing the works of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell on ego death and rebirth.
“I experienced an ego death, a career death, a financial death – all of these things, right?” Hammer said. “And [Carl] Jung talks about this. Joseph Campbell talks about this. You’ve got to die, and once you die you can then be reborn. A phoenix isn’t going to rise if there’s no ashes.”
Hammer’s appearance on Club Random follows a previous interview where he revealed he is “broke” but “happier than ever.” He also spoke candidly about his addiction struggles, recounting his days of heavy drug use and partying before entering rehab.
“I was doing a lot of drugs. I was partying hard. I was being real.”
