In just under two months since its March 29 release, Beyoncé’s expansive 27-track masterpiece, ‘Cowboy Carter,’ has crossed the monumental milestone of one billion streams on Spotify, confirmed by Parkwood Entertainment on Wednesday, May 8.
Shortly after its debut, ‘Cowboy Carter’ made history as Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day for 2024, marking the first time a country album claimed this distinction for the year. (Though, Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ has since taken the title.) But Spotify records are just the beginning of this album’s triumphs.
Debuting at the summit of both the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums charts, ‘Cowboy Carter’ solidified Beyoncé’s place in music history as the first Black woman to lead the latter since its inception in 1964. Featuring collaborations with country legends like Dolly Parton and rising stars such as Tanner Adell, the album’s impact resonated far beyond genre boundaries.
Moreover, 23 tracks from the album landed on the Billboard Hot 100, propelling Beyoncé’s career total entries from 85 to a staggering 106, making her the 17th artist and third woman to achieve over 100 entries on the chart.
The album’s success was no surprise to fans, who eagerly awaited its release after Beyoncé’s announcement during the 2024 Super Bowl. Reflecting on the album’s genesis, Beyoncé shared her journey of exploring country music’s roots, stemming from an experience where she didn’t feel welcomed.
With ‘Cowboy Carter,’ Beyoncé not only crafted a genre-defying masterpiece but also further cemented her status as a trailblazing force in music.
