Beyond the Costume: Antony Starr Addresses Homelander Stereotypes

image

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Antony Starr, the talented actor behind the controversial character Homelander in Amazon Prime Video’s hit series “The Boys,” expressed his frustration with fans who assume he shares traits with his on-screen persona. Starr’s portrayal of the ruthless and narcissistic superhero has earned him widespread recognition, but he’s determined to dispel any misconceptions about his real-life personality.

“I’m mildly offended when people think I’m like him,” Starr confessed, referencing the psychopathic nature of his character. “He’s a narcissist, and I’m not.” The actor’s comments highlight the ongoing conversation about the separation between actors and their roles, a topic that’s particularly relevant given Homelander’s intense and disturbing character arc.

Despite the complexity of the character, Starr insists that he’s nothing like the fictional persona he brings to life on screen. Series creator Eric Kripke praised Starr’s ability to humanize Homelander, noting that his understanding of the character’s complexities makes his performance stand out.

As “The Boys” enters its fourth season, Starr’s portrayal of Homelander remains a critical element of the show’s success. With his ability to balance the character’s charisma with his inner turmoil, Starr continues to receive acclaim for his performance. But it’s time to set the record straight – Antony Starr is not Homelander, and he’s ready to prove it.
