K-pop sensation Jin, a member of the supergroup BTS, is set to participate as a torchbearer for South Korea in the Olympic torch relay for the Paris 2024 Games, according to a statement from his talent agency, HYBE, on Wednesday.
Jin to Spread Harmony and Peace in Paris Olympics
“Jin will take part in the Olympic Torch Relay to spread the message of ‘harmony’ and ‘peace,’” HYBE announced. “Jin, along with other torchbearers, will traverse various historic sites in the host country,” the agency added, though a specific schedule has yet to be announced.
BTS’s Jin Completes Military Service
The singer-songwriter, who is the eldest member of BTS, recently completed his mandatory military service in June.
Olympic Flame’s Journey to Paris 2024
The flame for the Paris Games was lit in Olympia, Greece – the birthplace of the ancient Olympics – back in April. It has been traveling in a relay ever since and will ultimately light the cauldron to mark the opening of the Summer Games on July 26.
Torchbearers of the Paris 2024 Olympics
The flame is expected to be passed from hand to hand by approximately 10,000 torchbearers and will remain lit in the Olympic cauldron until the Closing Ceremony two weeks later. Notable figures like France soccer international and four-time Champions League winner Raphaël Varane have already completed legs of the relay.
Adventurous Journeys of the Olympic Flame
Over the years, the Olympic flame has embarked on many adventurous journeys, including traveling around the world, going into space, being carried underwater, and even scaling Everest.
Paralympic Games and the Olympic Flame
The flame will also light the Paralympic Games, taking place from August 28 to September 8, where 1,000 torchbearers will relay the torch across 50 French towns and cities.
