Cameron Diaz is making a grand return to the big screen, reuniting with Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers for the much-anticipated Shrek 5.
Dreamworks made the exciting announcement on Tuesday, July 9, confirming that the beloved trio will reprise their iconic roles in the fifth installment of the franchise, which first charmed audiences in 2001. Diaz, 51, will once again voice Princess Fiona, with Murphy, 66, as Donkey, and Myers, 61, as Shrek.
“Not too Far, Far Away… @Shrek 5 is coming to theaters on July 1, 2026, with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz,” Dreamworks shared on their official X account.
Fans of the animated series were thrilled by the news. One enthusiastic social media user declared, “The GOAT [greatest of all time] is back!” Another added, “Cinema is back.”
In a recent interview with Collider, Murphy revealed that he had already begun work on the film and hinted at a potential spin-off centered on his character. “We started doing Shrek [5] four or five months ago,” he said. “I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up.”
The Shrek franchise includes three other feature films: Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007), and Shrek Forever After (2010). Additionally, there have been numerous TV specials and short films, including Shrek the Halls (2007), Scared Shrekless (2010), Shrek’s Yule Log (2010), and Shrek’s Thrilling Tales (2012). The latter marked Diaz’s last involvement with the Shrek series until now.
Prepare for a nostalgic and exciting return as Shrek 5 hits theaters on July 1, 2026!
