Comme des Garçons’ Nike Air Foamposite One “Cat Eye” Drops This Week

image

Comme des Garçons and Nike are teaming up once again for their zen garden-inspired Air Foamposite One. The latest collaboration, dubbed the “Cat Eye,” brings a marbled grey pattern to the newly reshaped sneaker.

In 2021, CdG made history as the first collaborator to customize the Foamposite shell, introducing a rippled pattern in black and white colorways. For this iteration, “Comme des Garçons Homme Plus” is printed on the shoe’s mustache, while gold, silver, and bronze striping on the tongue and heel pulls pay homage to this summer’s Paris Olympics.

Notably, the pricing has been adjusted to $325, down from the $520 price tag of the initial colorways. Nike first introduced the Air Foamposite One and its namesake technology in 1997. The form-fitting, single-piece shell is created by pouring liquid polyurethane into a mold and applying pressure and heat. This process was costly, leading Nike to outsource production to Korean car manufacturer Daewoo, reportedly costing $750,000 for each size produced. Additionally, a new method to affix the Foamposite upper to its sole unit was developed, resulting in a connection five times stronger than previous methods.

Originally released in a single colorway for Penny Hardaway, the Air Foamposite One became an unofficial signature sneaker for the star point guard. The first retro release didn’t occur until 2007, when new colorways were also introduced.

The Comme des Garçons x Nike Air Foamposite One “Cat Eye” will be available this Friday, July 19, through Dover Street Market’s global stores and E-Shop. While an additional drop via the Snkrs app is possible, it has not been confirmed yet.

Don’t miss your chance to grab this unique and stylish collaboration, blending the best of Comme des Garçons’ design with Nike’s innovative technology!
