Dame Dash has recently made headlines with a remarkable offer tied to the sale of his one-third ownership stake in Roc-A-Fella Records. In a video shared on Instagram, Dash announced that he would include an original Roc-A-Fella chain as part of the deal for anyone willing to place a bid of at least $10 million USD. Dash emphasized his unique role as the sole custodian of authentic Roc-A-Fella chains, stating that all legitimate chains must be distributed through him. He highlighted the exclusivity of these chains, mentioning that artists like Kanye West received theirs directly from him.
Dash’s ownership stake in Roc-A-Fella
Dash’s ownership stake in Roc-A-Fella encompasses the rights to JAY-Z’s seminal debut album, Reasonable Doubt. However, Dash clarified that the sale pertains to a portion of the company itself, rather than the copyright to the album. This means that the prospective buyer would acquire the rights to the album and could continue to earn revenue from it until 2031, when the rights are scheduled to revert to JAY-Z, according to the terms of his original contract with the label.
In his video, Dash made it clear that he is only interested in serious buyers, stating, “If you want to purchase one-third of Roc-A-Fella Inc., you’ll need to bring significant capital. And for any offer over $10 million, I’ll sweeten the deal with an original Roc-A-Fella chain from my personal collection. I was the only one who distributed these chains during Roc-A-Fella’s prime, so if I don’t give you the chain, it’s not an authentic Roc-A-Fella chain. You’ll receive one of the original chains, the same as the ones I gave to Kanye and Cam’ron.” He added, “So if you’re serious about completing the transaction, and willing to invest real money, the chain could be yours—unless someone else exercises their right of first refusal.”
This announcement underscores Dash’s significant role in Roc-A-Fella’s history and his continuing influence in the music industry. The sale presents a rare opportunity for collectors and investors alike to own a piece of hip-hop history.
