Rumors suggest Disney is considering pop star Dua Lipa for the role of Megara in the upcoming live-action remake of “Hercules,” announced in 2022. While no official casting decisions have been made, DisInsider reports the studio “likes” Lipa for the part. The film, directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Joe and Anthony Russo, will not be a direct translation of the original 1997 animated classic.
Previously, Taron Edgerton and Ariana Grande were speculated to play Hercules and Megara, respectively, but Lipa’s name has now surfaced for the female lead.
In the original, Megara begins as an ally to the villain Hades but eventually falls in love with Hercules. The Russos have hinted at new elements in their adaptation, aiming to bring fresh perspectives to the story while honoring its roots.
Despite earlier rumors of Ritchie’s departure, there is no confirmation he has left the project. The original “Hercules” follows the titular hero, voiced by Tate Donovan, as he seeks to prove himself worthy of joining the gods on Mount Olympus, with the help of his sidekick Philoctetes, voiced by Danny DeVito.
