Drake faced another significant gambling loss on Saturday night after betting $565,000 on Tyson Fury to defeat Oleksandr Usyk. This loss comes in the wake of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Meet the Grahams,” which highlighted Drake’s gambling habits. The Canadian rapper’s recent betting misfortune only seems to support Lamar’s claims.
Earlier on Saturday, Drake shared his $565,000 betting slip for Fury to win on his Instagram Story. Had Fury won, Drake stood to gain over $1 million. However, Tyson Fury suffered a split decision loss to Oleksandr Usyk at the packed Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
In the bout, one judge initially scored it 114-113 in Fury’s favor. Yet, this ruling was overturned by two other judges, who scored the match 114-113 and 115-112 in favor of Usyk. This outcome marked Fury’s first professional defeat, as reported by ESPN. Consequently, Usyk now holds the title of undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Drake is well-known for his fondness for sports betting, frequently sharing his bets on social media. Some significant losses have fueled speculation that his wagers might jinx the teams or players he supports. This notion seemed to manifest with Fury, who, despite being the -125 favorite with an impressive 34-0 record, faced defeat.
On social media, fans jestingly referenced Drake’s seeming streak of bad luck in sports betting, joking about a possible curse. According to the Daily Mail, Drake has experienced several significant losses in his betting ventures, including a six-figure sum when Anthony Joshua defeated Francis Ngannou, another $700K loss following Dricus Du Plessis’s victory over Sean Strickland at UFC 297, a $550K loss on Israel Adesanya’s defeat to Strickland, and a hefty $890K loss after betting on Logan Paul to knock out Dillon Danis.
Despite these setbacks, Drake experienced a significant win earlier this year. In February 2024, the rapper placed a substantial $1.15 million wager on the Kansas City Chiefs to win the 2024 Super Bowl. The Chiefs’ exciting overtime victory, with a score of 25-22 against the 49ers, reportedly earned Drake a substantial $2.3 million payout.
