Eminem Teams Up with Cole Bennett for “Tobey” Music Video

image

Following the recent drop of his single “Tobey,” Eminem has unveiled an expansive visual treatment for the track, set to appear on his upcoming album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). Originally scheduled for release last Friday, the cinematic video features fellow artists Big Sean and BabyTron and was directed by Cole Bennett.

Bennett, known for his innovative approach, detailed the challenges of creating the visually striking piece, shot entirely on a blue screen with meticulous lighting setups. The video showcases the trio as factory workers sporting custom Detroit workwear, a nod to the city’s industrial heritage.

Drawing inspiration from Eminem’s own album artwork and previous collaborations, Bennett weaves intricate visuals and Easter eggs throughout the narrative. He explains, “Explaining this video concept to people wasn’t the easiest thing to do. As I was explaining it to Marshall he scratched his head and said ‘I guess I’m just going to have to trust you on this one.'”

The video culminates with a symbolic scene featuring Eminem in a Jason Voorhees mask, juxtaposing different personas and themes from his career.

Watch the full video for “Tobey” in the gallery above and anticipate the release of Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) on July 12.
