Ethan Hawke has found himself in a unique position among Swifties, thanks to his recent cameo in Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight” music video. In a recent interview on Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle Show, the 53-year-old actor discussed his unexpected appearance alongside his Dead Poets Society co-star, Josh Charles.
“I think there’s some kind of psychic connection she was trying to provide for the fans about The Tortured Poets Department and the Dead Poets Society,” Hawke shared. “She was kind of doing some little homage, and so she asked a couple of us old dogs to come out and make our presence known.”
Julia Cunningham, the show’s host, pointed out Hawke’s newfound status in the Swiftie culture. “It’s funny you say that because I thought, as I was flying out there, I thought, you know, I’ve worked so hard in my life, and I have a feeling this will be in my obituary,” Hawke confessed, humorously acknowledging the video’s potential impact on his legacy.
Taylor Swift’s ‘Fortnight’ Video
In Swift’s moody “Fortnight” video, which accompanied her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, Hawke and Charles play scientists experimenting on Swift’s character after a failed relationship. The video also features Post Malone, who collaborated with Swift on the song.
Swift, who wrote and directed the music video, expressed her admiration for the Dead Poets actors on Instagram, calling them “the coolest guys on earth.”
Reflecting on the experience on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Hawke revealed the secrecy surrounding his role and the excitement of working with Charles, his friend of 35 years. He recounted, “We got something on them. We’re going to meet the queen ourselves.”
Ethan Hawke’s unexpected cameo in Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight” video has certainly left a mark in both the music and film worlds, highlighting his versatility and appeal across different genres.
