Former Australian Test cricketer Michael Slater had a dramatic moment in a Queensland court
He collapsed after being denied bail on multiple charges that include allegations related to stalking and domestic violence. Slater is 54 years old. Slater is facing charges of domestic violence, unlawful stalking, and common assault. The police have accused him of sending unwanted text messages and making intimidating phone calls over the past six months.
Slater has mental health conditions that can lead to impulsive and reckless behavior, and this was discussed at the hearing. Slater played cricket for Australia from 1993 to 2004. He played 74 Test matches and scored over 5,000 runs, including 14 centuries.
He also represented Australia in 42 One-Day Internationals. Slater will appear in court again at the end of May. The magistrate denied his bail application, and he collapsed in the courtroom, requiring assistance from court staff to get back on his feet.
