Sarah Sze’s artistic vision blends meticulous observation with active participation, creating monumental installations that weave together a tapestry of diverse images from history and personal narrative. Her work invites viewers into a cosmic matrix where physical and digital realms merge, offering both micro and macro perspectives.
Currently exhibited at Gagosian’s rue de Ponthieu location in Paris, Sze’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” was originally showcased at the Thailand Biennale. Spanning the entire first floor of the gallery, the installation transforms the space with video projections onto delicate paper screens, casting a kaleidoscopic array of light and imagery. “The boundaries of my artwork are never contained—they spill beyond the confines of the gallery, inviting viewers to engage with the work firsthand,” Sze emphasized.
Enhancing the immersive experience, Sze’s installation is accompanied by a piano suite composed by Modest Mussorgsky in 1874. Additionally, a new series of abstract paintings by Sze further explore the interplay between digital and analog mediums, tactile and immaterial elements, and the juxtaposition of physical reality with imagined realms.
For art enthusiasts visiting Paris during the Olympic Games, “Pictures at an Exhibition” will be on display until September 28, 2024. Don’t miss the opportunity to step into Sarah Sze’s captivating world at Gagosian Paris.
