Megan Mulrooney, formerly a senior director at Nino Mier Gallery, is set to launch her own gallery in Los Angeles, taking over three spaces previously operated by her former employer.
Megan Mulrooney’s Vision for a New Los Angeles Gallery
“As a native Angeleno, I aim for my gallery to embody the creative spirit of Los Angeles and its vibrant artistic traditions,” Mulrooney explained. “I’m excited to create a space that fosters community and intergenerational dialogues, bringing together established and emerging artists to showcase not only their diverse practices but also their curatorial visions.”
Closure of Nino Mier Gallery in Los Angeles
Nino Mier Gallery closed its Los Angeles locations earlier this year following allegations in The Art Newspaper accusing dealer Nino Mier of artist underpayment. The gallery announced an investigation into these claims and subsequently decided to shut down its LA galleries. Mier cited strategic business considerations for the closure and maintains operations in New York and Brussels.
Megan Mulrooney’s Career and New Gallery Venture
Mulrooney’s new gallery will occupy three of the four former Mier spaces where she previously worked as director from 2018, later advancing to senior director in 2022. During her tenure at Nino Mier, she oversaw the opening of the West Hollywood space and launched an artist residency program in Cologne, Germany. Her career includes previous roles at Paddle8 and Sotheby’s.
A spokesperson confirmed that Mier has no involvement with Mulrooney’s new venture, officially named Megan Mulrooney Gallery. The gallery’s inaugural exhibitions, featuring solo shows by artists Piper Bangs and Marin Majic, are scheduled to debut on September 14.
