Gagosian Gallery and the Olympic Museum have joined forces to present “The Art of the Olympics,” a two-part exhibition that explores the intersection of art and sport. The exhibition, held at Gagosian’s Parisian galleries on rue de Castiglione and rue de Ponthieu, features a diverse array of modern and contemporary artworks and historical artist-designed posters from the Olympic Museum’s collection.
The exhibition at rue de Castiglione showcases artworks that delve into sport’s cultural, iconographic, social, and emotional aspects, featuring pieces by renowned artists such as Andreas Gursky, Man Ray, Duane Hanson, Jonas Wood, and Christo. Meanwhile, the second floor at rue de Ponthieu presents a remarkable selection of posters from the Olympic Museum’s collection, created by international artists to promote and commemorate various editions of the Olympic Games.
Celebrating Sports and Culture
This unique exhibition celebrates the artistic interpretation of sports and highlights the cultural significance of the Olympic Games in contemporary society. A portion of the proceeds from sales will be donated to the Olympic Refuge Foundation, an NGO established by the International Olympic Committee to protect and support displaced young people worldwide through the power of sport.
The exhibition will be accessible to the public throughout the summer, coinciding with the Olympic and Paralympic Games, with the display at rue de Castiglione visible from the street 24 hours a day. This initiative follows Gagosian’s tradition of engaging with critical events in the city, as seen in the 2019 “An Exhibition for Notre-Dame” at rue de Ponthieu.
“The Art of the Olympics” is an exclusive exhibition, a must-visit for art and sports enthusiasts, offering a unique perspective on the intersection of these two worlds.
