Intersect Aspen Honors Meghann Riepenhoff with Inaugural Artist Award, Reveals Exciting 2024 Programming

The Intersect Aspen Art and Design Fair proudly announced that Meghann Riepenhoff has been honored with its first-ever Artist Award. Known for her innovative “camera-less photography,” Riepenhoff utilizes the cyanotype process to expose photographic paper to natural elements such as water, wind, and sediment. This technique beautifully captures the human connection with the environment.

The fair decided to honor Riepenhoff for her unique approach of incorporating natural elements and sustainable practices into her work. “Her ability to integrate organic materials and environmental themes is truly groundbreaking,” said Intersect in their announcement.

Tim von Gal, CEO of Intersect, shared his admiration for Riepenhoff’s work after viewing her exhibition at Jackson Fine Art in Atlanta. “Her immersive environmental process conveys extraordinary messages about the beauty and complexity of our natural world,” he told ARTnews. “Meghann’s work perfectly aligns with Aspen’s dedication to environmental consciousness.”

Celebrating Art, Environment, and Design

The fair, which takes place from July 30 to August 3 at the Aspen Ice Garden, will feature special programming focused on the environment, social consciousness, and design. Riepenhoff will be presented with the award on the opening day. On July 31, she will co-host a meditation and yoga session at the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, followed by a panel discussion on the environment moderated by landscape architect Ann Mullins. The panel will include Riepenhoff, photographer and conservationist Guadalupe Laiz, and architect Nathan Kipnis.

Riepenhoff expressed her gratitude, stating, “I’m honored to receive this award and grateful that my work can highlight essential questions about our relationship with the environment. It’s crucial to recognize our interconnectedness and prioritize environmental wellbeing.”

This edition of Intersect Aspen will feature 30 galleries, including first-time exhibitors like Aspen Collective, Axiom Contemporary, and HOFA. For the first time, contemporary design galleries such as BDDW will also participate. On August 2, there will be a panel discussion on the intersection of contemporary art and design, featuring Todd Merrill and Fernando Mastrangelo.

“We are thrilled with our lineup of extraordinary galleries and programming,” von Gal said. “The record-setting registration of VIP collectors and art enthusiasts validates our efforts in serving both Aspen and the art community.”
