Japanese designer Junya Watanabe showcased his Spring/Summer 2025 collection at Paris Fashion Week, continuing his exploration of punk culture and its rebellious fashion elements. Watanabe reimagines traditional tuxedos and suits by incorporating his signature patchwork detailing, effectively breaking the mold of conventional fashion.
In this collection, Watanabe masterfully redefines semi-formal wear. Tuxedos are given a fresh twist with denim and tartan patchwork. The first 25 looks focus on modern suiting, gradually transitioning from classic suit features to bold denim-on-denim styles. Black and grey patchwork, crafted from various fabrics, redefines the classic notch lapel tuxedo with contrasting stitching and Watanabe’s iconic red plaid. Classic tuxedo jackets are paired with denim trousers, eventually giving way to double-breasted denim tuxedo jackets adorned with matching plaid patchwork, solidifying them as semi-formal staples.
The collection also features tuxedo dress shirts with patchwork elements, maintaining the semi-formal theme. To close out the collection, Watanabe introduces hybrid silk scarf and punk rock t-shirts that pay homage to bands like Scorpions and Black Sabbath. All-white denim suits round off the SS25 collection, highlighting Watanabe’s innovative approach to fashion.
With this collection, Junya Watanabe once again demonstrates his ability to blend tradition with rebellious style, creating a unique and modern take on semi-formal fashion.
