Killer Mike snagged one of the top honors at this year’s BET Awards, winning Album of the Year for his critically acclaimed album MICHAEL. The Grammy-winning artist received the award during Sunday’s ceremony in Los Angeles, marking a significant milestone in his career.

The competition was fierce, with nominees including Chris Brown’s 11:11, Gunna’s A Gift & a Curse, 21 Savage’s American Dream, Usher’s Coming Home, Drake’s For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition), Victoria Monét’s Jaguar II, and Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2. Despite the strong lineup, Killer Mike’s MICHAEL stood out, capturing the hearts of fans and critics alike.

In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Killer Mike expressed deep gratitude to his fellow Black artists and fans: “Thank you for seeing me, Black people. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for honoring me in this way.” He also gave a shout-out to his wife Shana, their four children, and his manager for their unwavering support.

The artist, whose real name is Michael Render, humorously referenced his recent arrest at the Grammy Awards, saying, “Technically, I was not supposed to be here.” His win at the BET Awards is a testament to his resilience and the powerful impact of his music.
