King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have exciting news for fans: they are set to release a new album on August 9. Titled Flight B741, this marks the 26th studio LP from the prolific Australian rock band. The album will be released under their new label, (P)Doom Records.
In anticipation of the album, the band has shared the lead single “Le Risque,” which features the vocal debut of drummer Michael Cavanagh. The track comes with a visually striking video directed by Guy Tyzack, showcasing the band members playfully exploring an airplane hangar. You can watch the video below.
Flight B741 follows closely on the heels of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard’s two 2023 albums: The Silver Cord and PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation. While developing their new material, the band drew inspiration from early Steve Miller Band and The Band, aiming to create songs that felt loose and intuitive.
“This is our most collaborative record,” bandleader Stu Mackenzie shared in press materials. “The collaboration was occurring in the room, it was free, and everyone was bringing in songs and ideas. And we wanted to have as many lead vocalists as we could, and to pass the mic.”
The album promises to be a testament to the band’s collaborative spirit and evolving sound. With each member contributing to the songwriting process and a greater emphasis on shared vocals, Flight B741 is set to offer a fresh and dynamic listening experience.
