Leicester-born Mahalia, despite her Grammy nods and Billboard hits, remains grounded in her roots. The 26-year-old artist began her journey in school, with her mother balancing early London studio sessions and academic demands in Birmingham.
Raised by a Black Jamaican mother and a white British father, Mahalia’s unique upbringing fostered deep emotional expression in her music. Her debut album, Love and Compromise (2019), established her as a key figure in UK R&B, with tracks like “I Wish I Missed My Ex” resonating on themes of heartbreak and mental health.
A Bold Statement Against Critics
After a nearly four-year hiatus and several EPs, her second album showcased her growth and authentic self. Mahalia continues to prioritize her personal life alongside her career.
Her new single, “Life Size,” created with Take A Day Trip for Sprite’s Limelight campaign, challenges beauty standards and addresses personal struggles. The garage-inspired R&B track is a direct response to industry critics. “The song is about me and a message to shut down the critics,” Mahalia says.
With “Life Size” now streaming, Mahalia blends personal authenticity with artistic expression as she navigates her career.
