Michael Jordan’s Iconic North Carolina Air Jordan 1 Returns with a Vintage Twist

image

Exciting news for sneaker enthusiasts: the iconic Air Jordan 1 High “UNC” is reportedly making a comeback in 2025. This colorway, originally released in 1985, is one of Michael Jordan’s first signature sneakers and holds a special place in the brand’s history.

Often referred to as the “Carolina Blue,” “University Blue,” or “Dark Powder Blue,” this colorway draws inspiration from Jordan’s college days at the University of North Carolina. Although he wore Converse sneakers during his time at UNC, this style was part of the original Air Jordan 1 lineup, cementing its legacy. The upcoming release is expected to feature an official colorway of “Dark Powder Blue/Dark Powder Blue-Sail” with a style code of DZ5485-402. Adding to the excitement, reports suggest this pair will have a vintage-inspired “Reimagined” twist, similar to the 2022 Air Jordan 1 High “Lost and Found,” which included aged accents and a patinaed heel collar to mimic the look of an original ’85 pair today.

The “UNC” colorway is known for its simple yet striking two-tone color blocking with white and light blue leathers. Since its debut, it has only been re-released once in its original form in 2015. Additionally, the color scheme was revisited in 2018 for a highly sought-after Off-White x Air Jordan 1 High collaboration designed by Virgil Abloh. Given the popularity of these previous releases, the 2025 iteration is expected to generate significant buzz.

In addition to the “UNC” release, other notable Jordan leaks include the Air Jordan 8 Retro “Aqua” and the Air Jordan 12 Retro “Melo,” both slated for release next year. While the brand has yet to officially confirm the Air Jordan 1 High “UNC Reimagined,” reliable sources like @zsneakerheadz are hinting at a summer 2025 launch. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.

Be sure to mark your calendars and keep an eye out for more information on this highly anticipated release!
