Milan Design Week 2024, held from April 15-21, showcased a plethora of innovative furniture and home decor, emphasizing sustainability and creative design. This year’s theme, “Materia Natura” (“Natural Matter”), saw over 1,900 exhibitors exploring the role of design in addressing societal challenges.
One of the standout installations was Hermès’ exhibit at La Pelota, featuring reclaimed materials such as bricks, slate, marble, and terracotta. This installation, designed by Charlotte Macaux Perelman and Alexis Fabry, highlighted the brand’s commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship, creatively using more than twenty different organic materials sourced locally.
Another highlight was the collaboration between Gufram and Motion Italia, presenting the Bocca® sofa at Palazzo Litta. This iconic piece, originally designed by Studio65, was brought to life with motion, adding a playful twist to a classic design.
Google’s “Making Sense of Color” exhibition at Garage 21 explored the profound influence of color through a multispace installation, blending abstract and tangible elements to showcase the transformative potential of color in design.
Samsung’s “Newfound Equilibrium” at Le Cavallerizze emphasized the synergy between humans and technology, reflecting themes of essentiality, innovation, and harmony. This installation showcased Samsung’s design philosophy and its vision for a future enriched by technology.
Milan Design Week 2024 also featured exciting exhibits from major fashion houses. Dolce & Gabbana introduced new homewares in monochromatic and vibrant designs at their headquarters, while Bottega Veneta’s “On the Rocks” installation at Palazzo San Fedele delved into the narrative of their winter collection through collaborations with Italian furniture manufacturers.
