Naomi Osaka, who is scheduled to mix it up on the U.S. Open court, will be in a truly one-of-a-kind “magical girl” costume designed by Yoon Ahn and Nike. The Japanese tennis player will don one-of-a-kind uniforms—green for day games and black for night games—that not only possess the best fit but also are made from the most flexible materials. The ensemble also consists of skirts and coats that have voluminous bows on them.
“To begin with, the outfit was the result of a concept of a ‘magical girl’ from Japanese culture,” Osaka expresses her views. “I am like a different person when I get onto the field and I just love that. I hope that anyone who sees it will be able to feel the same way I do.”
Magical Girl Naomi Osaka Shines in New Nike Collection
The brand will throw exclusives of Naomi alongside their debut with the new Yoon Nike Women collection. The designs of this line are inspired by classic athletic wear and a schoolgirl’s uniform from bygone days. keypieces include a varsity jacket in red, white, and blue with a big white N on it that’s integrated with Nike’s Swoosh.
There’s also a purple cardigan, which is styled similarly and is labeled with “34.” The collection will also have polos and bras that are made of materials especially for use as tennis gear.
Nike Women said the line when it launched the collection through Instagram, captioning the post, “The legend has landed,” in a video campaign that features Osaka walking onto the court in the middle of a loud, vibrant crowd.
“Our way of being experienced is that of girls,” Yoon declares. “My idea was to give the sense of a typically girls-on the court after Naomi presented me with the initial. She gave me a vision, and I acted as a designer to produce an outfit that will enable her to be comfortable and confident during the match, which will allow her to produce her best performance. I feel the whole collection does the same, giving women the opportunity to be able to communicate their character and also make their personal style look even better.”
The Nike Women by Yoon collection hits the internet and a handful of stores on August 27.
