Natasha Zinko has unveiled her Resort 2025 collection, which starkly contrasts the optimistic theme of the previous Fall/Winter 2024 lineup. In times when many designers aim for escapism—such as Balmain’s journey to Bordeaux or Moschino’s colorful excess—Zinko’s 29 new looks are tailored for a dystopian future.
The collection’s darker color palette immediately sets a somber tone, featuring deep blues, stark white, black, and beige. This is a sharp departure from the bright hues of the last season. The silhouettes also explore extreme opposites, with garments constructed using straps and sleeves reminiscent of straight jackets, while other pieces expose the body with very short mini skirts and cutouts. Pieces from the previous FW collection are reimagined as spacesuit-inspired attire, such as a strapped-up trench coat with industrial hardware and a voluminous jacket featuring asymmetry and dull materials.
Denim plays a significant role in the collection, appreciated for its durability even when showing signs of wear. The denim pieces appear worn-in, with yellow fading, rips, and frayed edges that give them a rich, lived-in narrative.
In addressing the necessities of an apocalyptic scenario, Natasha Zinko highlights an often overlooked essential: clean underwear. Briefs are ingeniously repurposed into various accessories and garments, including headpieces, bags, and even as a replacement for pants, demonstrating the resourcefulness required in a dystopian setting.
The full collection is a testament to Zinko’s creative exploration of a darker, more utilitarian future while maintaining a unique fashion-forward approach.
