Netflix is gearing up to release a sequel to the acclaimed sci-fi dystopian film ‘The Platform.’ This Spanish-language movie, which premiered at TIFF in 2019, was later picked up by Netflix for streaming.
In the original film, prisoners find themselves in a tower-style vertical prison with around 250 floors, each containing a single cell. Every day, a platform laden with food descends from the top, briefly stopping at each level. While those at the top floors feast, the lower floors are left starving. Prisoners are randomly relocated to different levels each month, and any attempt to hoard food results in their cells being subjected to freezing temperatures.
Director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia returns for ‘The Platform 2,’ with Milena Smit, Hovik Keuchkerian, Natalia Tena, and Óscar Jaenada starring. The sequel remains set in the same “Vertical Self-Management Center.” The teaser offers glimpses of eerie scenes and prisoner conflicts without revealing much about the plot.
Netflix’s synopsis teases: “As a mysterious leader imposes their rule in the Platform, a new resident becomes embroiled in the battle against this controversial feeding system. When eating from the wrong plate becomes a death sentence, how far would you go to survive?”
‘The Platform 2’ will premiere on Netflix on October 4. Watch the teaser above and stay tuned for the full trailer.
