Fans now have a clearer picture of when Netflix’s most viewed series, Squid Game, will return. The South Korean show captivated the world when it was released in 2021. Now, its star, Lee Jung-Jae, who plays Seong Gi-hun, has confirmed the highly anticipated new season’s release timeline.
In an interview with Business Insider, Lee was asked to tease details about the second season. While he kept significant details under wraps, he did reveal, “It will be released in December.” This news follows earlier reports that the second season would arrive sometime this year. Although Netflix has yet to officially announce the premiere date, an earnings call in April indicated that the release would occur in the latter half of this year.
Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show follows 456 players competing for approximately $3.3 million USD in a series of children’s games, with the deadly twist that failure results in instant death. After winning six of its 14 Emmy nominations, Netflix renewed the series for a second season and launched a reality competition spinoff. Stay tuned to Wally for more information as the official release date approaches this December.
