New York Fashion Week (NYFW) this September will shine a spotlight on emerging designers and sustainable fashion trends. As the fashion industry continues to evolve, this year’s event promises to showcase innovative designs and eco-conscious practices.

Among the notable emerging designers, Zankov and Diotima are gaining attention for their detailed knitwear and crochet designs, respectively. These designers are known for their unique approaches and meticulous craftsmanship, making them stand out in the crowded fashion scene. Proenza Schouler and Sandy Liang, both well-regarded for their distinct aesthetics, will also be presenting new collections. Schouler is expected to offer inventive layering techniques, while Liang will showcase mature designs with tweed suit sets and cashmere sweaters (WhoWhatWear) .

Sustainability is a key focus this year, with many brands taking steps to reduce their environmental impact. Designers like Advisry, Grace Ling, Sami Miro Vintage, and Mara Hoffman are leading the charge with their commitment to ethical practices. These brands are using deadstock fabrics, recycling materials, and striving for zero waste in their design and manufacturing processes. Their efforts are part of a broader movement to make the fashion industry more sustainable and responsible (Essence) .

The event will also highlight trends such as corporate-coded attire, including tailored blazers, briefcase bags, and suit sets, which continue to gain popularity. Additionally, dramatic outerwear, like the fur coats designed by Gabriela Hearst, Khaite, and LaQuan Smith, will be featured prominently. Pencil skirts are making a comeback with modern twists, as seen in the collections of Tory Burch and Brandon Maxwell (WhoWhatWear) .

NYFW is set to take place from September 6-8, 2024, at various venues across New York City. Attendees can expect a weekend filled with runway shows, after parties, and opportunities to explore the latest fashion trends.
