The famous Tomb Raider video game series transitioned to the big screen in 2018, but plans for a sequel were halted when MGM lost the rights to the franchise.
Following Amazon’s merger with MGM, the newly formed Amazon MGM Studios is reviving the Tomb Raider franchise. Teaming up with Crystal Dynamics, the studio is set to produce a Tomb Raider series, helmed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, renowned for her work on Fleabag.
Expressing her excitement, Waller-Bridge stated, “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode… Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
Meanwhile, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games are also collaborating on a new Tomb Raider game, promising a single-player, story-driven experience utilizing Unreal Engine 5.
