After teasing fans with their unexpected collaboration last month, a longer clip of Quavo and Lana Del Rey’s “Tough” has surfaced, causing quite a buzz. The pair shared the extended snippet in a joint Instagram post, hinting that their partnership might just be the “duo we never knew we needed.”
In the new sample, Quavo and Lana harmonize over the hook, with Quavo adding his signature ad-libs. The lyrics paint a vivid picture: “Tough like the scuff on a pair of old leather boots / Like the blue-collar, red-dirt attitude / Like a .38 made out of brass / Tough like the stuff in my grandpa’s glass (grandpa’s glass!) / Life’s gonna do what it does / Sure as the good lord’s up above / Cut like a diamond shining in the rough (Shining!).”
The initial teaser of “Tough,” released on May 9, felt like an intro or interlude, featuring a conversation between Quavo and Del Rey over a twangy trap beat. “I’ll show you around,” Quavo tells Del Rey. “Come take a ride with me. Whenever. Whenever you’re ready. Call on me.” To which she replies, “I’ll give it back when I get there.” Quavo ends with, “Alright, it’s a bet.”
Fans are eagerly awaiting more, with no official release date announced yet. Excited comments flooded the post, with one fan noting, “we got lana and quavo collab before gta 6,” and another adding, “country trap lana before gta 6 is wild.”
Lana Del Rey is no stranger to hip-hop influences, having previously collaborated with Playboi Carti and A$AP Rocky on tracks like “Summer Bummer,” “Groupie Love,” and the SoundCloud favorite “Ridin’.” This new track with Quavo continues to showcase her versatile artistry.
