Ryan Reynolds is dedicated to doing whatever it takes to keep his wife and kids happy. In a recent interview with Variety, the 47-year-old father of four shared insights into how he prepares mentally and physically for his role as Deadpool, along with his family’s reactions.
Ryan Reynolds on His Commitment to Deadpool
“It’s not so much about the aesthetic, though I have to fill out the suit. But you want people to see that you’re putting in the work,” explained Reynolds, alongside his Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy. “It makes me feel like I earned it. I have an intense relationship with Deadpool.”

Reynolds also shared a touching moment with his middle daughter, who asked, “Daddy, when can you stop Deadpooling?” Reynolds promised, “Soon, baby. I promise.” Levy humorously added that Reynolds needs “to stop wearing that mask in the house,” to which Jackman agreed, saying, “Yeah, that’s getting weird.” Reynolds joked, “It is weird. Listen, Blake [Lively] insists, so I just do it.”

Reynolds and Lively, 36, have four children: daughters James, 9, Inez, 7, Betty, 4, and their fourth baby, born in February 2023.
The Electric Chemistry Between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman
The upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine is the third installment in the franchise, following the original 2016 film and its 2018 sequel. In February, Levy told PEOPLE that the onscreen chemistry between Reynolds and Jackman is “electric.”
“I knew they were professionals. I knew they were the loveliest of gentlemen, but when you see them as Deadpool and Wolverine, something electric happens,” Levy said. “You’re in the presence of icons, and even as their good buddy, that gave me a thrill many a day. Hugh, Ryan, and I are very good friends in real life. We spend a lot of time together in real life.”
