Scientists Develop Smiling Robot with Living Skin

Featured Image

Lifelike robots are a step closer to reality thanks to a groundbreaking development from the University of Tokyo. Scientists there have created a prototype humanoid robot with living skin capable of a “natural smile.”

The University of Tokyo team set out to effectively bind living skin, grown in a lab from living cells, to a humanoid robot. While living skin, or cultured skin, has been used in robotics before, it often deformed or damaged with movement due to poor attachment methods.

Inspired by the ligaments in human tissues, the researchers developed a new attachment technique that allows the skin to move realistically. They showcased this innovation with a robot that can smile naturally, marking a significant advancement in the field of robotics.

Stay tuned as lifelike robots with realistic expressions become a fascinating new frontier in technology!
