The Scooby-Doo franchise may be getting a fresh start on Netflix.
According to sources cited by Variety, the series is currently in the final stages of negotiations with a commitment to a script-to-series deal. While specific plot details and the cast portraying the iconic Mystery Inc. gang remain undisclosed, reports indicate that the project is being positioned as a one-hour drama, with Warner Bros. Television taking the helm as producer. Notable names such as Josh Appelbaum, Scott Rosenberg, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Jonathan Gabay, and Adrienne Erickson are set to write and executive produce.
If realized, this adaptation will mark the first live-action Scooby-Doo series in over a decade, following the release of two TV films in 2010 and 2009. Before these recent projects, the franchise saw success with two live-action films featuring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini, and Neil Fanning in 2004 and 2002, both of which were box office hits.
