The Hollywood Bowl has teamed up with rising Argentinian artist Sebastian Curi to create a stunning new poster for the upcoming jazz festival. Set for June 15-16, the 2024 Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival will bring together both prominent and emerging musicians, including R&B singer Andra Day, Kamasi Washington, and the celebrated Ethiopian multi-instrumentalist Mulatu Astatke.
Established in 1922, the Hollywood Bowl is one of the oldest and most revered venues in the US. Unlike other notable North American jazz festivals, such as the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Bowl hasn’t traditionally worked with artists and illustrators to commemorate its events. Curi, originally from Buenos Aires, was immediately drawn to the Bowl’s immense scale and how it creates a profound sense of community.
“To capture this essence visually, I envisioned a hand that plays the amphitheater,” Curi told Hypeart. “The distinctive shell-shaped structure of the amphitheater is as integral to the performance as any instrument on the stage. This drawing creates a playful interplay between the waves of sound, hands strumming a piano-shaped rainbow, and the iconic bowl silhouette,” Curi added.
Limited to 75 editions, “UP IN THE AIR (2024)” is a three-color screen print measuring 18 x 24 inches, hand-pulled on Fedrigoni Natural 300 gsm paper. Fans can win a free ticket and poster by following the venue and artist on Instagram and tagging a friend they’d like to bring. Submissions are due by June 13, 2024, at 10am PT, with the winner announced later that day.
