Shawn Stussy recently hinted at ending his creative hiatus, declaring it was “time to engage for a long ride into the future.” Now, more details about his plans have emerged. A sign spotted outside skate footwear brand Globe’s headquarters in Melbourne, Australia, reveals that Stussy is reviving his S/DOUBLE brand in collaboration with Globe and its founders, the Hill brothers—Matt, Peter, and Stephen.
The sign, captured by Sneaker Freaker, reads in Stussy’s iconic handwriting: “Hello Australia and New Zealand. Shawn Stussy checking in to let you know that I have a new project coming with the Hill bros and the Globe crew … we are making goods again together under my S-DOUBLE mark … we all started working together over 30 years ago … after I retired the tides have changed and shifted and we now find ourselves perched to have another go at it!! Hope you approve and are ready to keep some rackspace open for our work … I am engaged and ready to move the needle once again … big aloha.”
Stussy’s Menswear and Surfboard Brand
Stussy originally founded S/DOUBLE in 2008, twelve years after stepping away from his namesake brand, to spend more time in Hawaii with his family. Unlike the graphic-heavy style of Stüssy, S/DOUBLE—named after a nickname given by his wife—focused more on menswear, offering items like derby shoes, brogues, and hand-crafted surfboards, while still maintaining some streetwear elements. The brand was primarily sold in Japan and collaborated with NEIGHBORHOOD, Porter, and Loopwheeler.
Although specific details about the S/DOUBLE relaunch are still under wraps, Globe’s expertise in footwear suggests exciting possibilities. Stussy may have hinted at this comeback by filing a new clothing logo trademark in 2020. Stay tuned for more updates on the revival of S/DOUBLE as they become available.
