In a bold protest, Just Stop Oil climate activists broke into a private airfield at Stansted Airport, spray-painting two private jets orange to highlight the environmental impact of luxury air travel. However, their target, Taylor Swift’s jet, was not present at the airfield, despite their beliefs.
The activists, two women, used a circular saw to breach the fence and fire extinguishers filled with orange paint to vandalize the jets. They were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and interference with national infrastructure.
Just Stop Oil’s statement condemned the disparity between the wealthy’s luxury travel and the climate change consequences suffered by others. They emphasized that “billionaires are not untouchable” and that climate breakdown affects everyone.
This incident follows online scrutiny of Taylor Swift’s frequent private jet use, with data suggesting extensive travel in 2023. Her legal team had previously sent a cease-and-desist letter to a student tracking her jet’s movements, accusing him of stalking and harassment.
Stansted Airport confirmed that the incident did not disrupt flights, and operations returned to normal. Essex Police swiftly arrested the protesters, reassuring the public of their preparedness to handle such incidents.
