The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism Exhibit at The Met

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is currently hosting an exhibition titled “The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism.” This exhibit celebrates the influential era of the 1920s-40s, showcasing 160 works of art that explore the cultural and artistic achievements of the Harlem Renaissance. 

The exhibition features a diverse range of mediums, including paintings, sculptures, photography, film, and ephemera, all of which highlight the vibrancy and creativity of Black society during the Harlem Renaissance and the Great Migration. Visitors can expect to see works from prominent artists of the time, as well as lesser-known figures who played significant roles in the movement. 

The exhibit delves into the everyday modern life of Harlem, presenting a rich tapestry of the social, cultural, and artistic milieu that defined the period. It also explores the connections between the Harlem Renaissance and broader transatlantic modernist movements, illustrating how ideas and styles crossed borders and influenced each other. 

Located at The Met on 1000 Fifth Avenue, the exhibit is open through July 28, 2024. Museum admission prices apply, offering a valuable opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in this pivotal period of American and global art history.
