In September, TikTok introduced a feature allowing creators to manually label AI-generated content to distinguish it from ‘real’ videos. Despite creators’ efforts to label their videos, identifying AI content created outside of TikTok remained challenging.
Now, TikTok is enhancing its efforts by automatically labeling all AI content. Collaborating with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), TikTok aims to combat online disinformation and trace the source of content. Implementing C2PA’s Content Credentials technology, TikTok will attach metadata to every piece of content, enabling recognition of AI in videos for labeling purposes.
As the first video-sharing platform to adopt C2PA’s technology, TikTok seeks to enhance media literacy by releasing videos explaining its efforts to prevent the spread of disinformation.
