In the latest installment of the ‘Bad Boys’ franchise, Will Smith’s character Mike Lowrey literally gets a taste of his own medicine. Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett slaps Smith’s character to snap him out of a panic attack, and audiences are drawing parallels to Smith’s infamous Oscars slap.
The scene is meant to be comedic but also a clever nod to real life. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah confirmed that they incorporated elements of Smith’s personal life into the script, creating a “meta experience” that blurs the lines between reality and fiction.
