Netflix has just dropped the trailer for its highly anticipated romantic comedy, *A Family Affair*. This film features a stellar cast including Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Joey King, Liza Koshy, and Kathy Bates. The plot revolves around Zara Ford (King), a young woman who finds out that her single mother, Brooke (Kidman), is having a steamy affair with her self-absorbed boss, Chris Cole (Efron). This is not the first time Efron and Kidman have shared the screen; they previously starred together in *The Paperboy* (2012) and the upcoming *The Butler* (2024).
The trailer reveals the comedic tension between mother and daughter as Brooke admits to Zara, “I am starting to feel things that I never thought I would feel again, not since your father died.” Zara’s shocked reaction underscores the potential for hilarious conflicts: “No! You did not just say that!”
Joey King is no stranger to Netflix, having starred in the hit *Kissing Booth* trilogy. Zac Efron has also made his mark on the platform with roles in the biographical crime drama *Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile* (2019) and his reality show *Down to Earth* (2020). Nicole Kidman’s previous work with Netflix includes her role in the musical comedy *The Prom* (2020).
Originally slated for a November 2023 release, the film’s debut was pushed back to June 28, 2024, due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes.
Directed by Richard LaGravenese and written by Carrie Solomon, *A Family Affair* promises to be a delightful watch. The film is produced by Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum, with Michelle Morrissey, Alyssa Altman, and Solomon serving as executive producers.
