Local Artist’s Design Showcased on Ontario Summer Games Medals

The 2024 Ontario Summer Games medals pay tribute to their host city, London. Unveiled by the organizing committee, these medals, designed by local artist Cheryl Radford, will be awarded to over 600 winners across 18 sports during the Civic long weekend in August.

Radford, inspired by London’s natural beauty and urban landscape, crafted a design featuring the Thames River, various trees, and the city’s skyline. “Living and working in downtown London, surrounded by the natural beauty of the river, trees, and flora amidst London’s urban landscape was the inspiration for this design,” she stated. The river symbolizes water sports, while the trees represent land events.

Originally designed for the 2020 games, which were canceled due to the pandemic, the medals were produced locally by Nothers The Award Store. Jim Nothers, President of Nothers, expressed pride in the collaboration: “We are honored to collaborate with local artist Cheryl Radford, whose design beautifully incorporates water, land, and buildings, mirroring the diverse settings where our young athletes will compete.”

Approximately 3,500 teenage athletes, along with coaches and officials, will participate in the four-day event, which for the first time will include flag football and women’s baseball. This marks the fifth time London has hosted the Ontario Summer Games, previously held in 2018, 2004, 1996, and 1975.
