On Sunday, June 30, Killer Mike dropped his latest single, “Humble Me,” just after addressing his recent arrest during an impassioned acceptance speech for Album of the Year at the 2024 BET Awards.
In this two-and-a-half-minute track, the 49-year-old rapper directly tackles his Grammy arrest, with the music video presented in striking black and white visuals.
“I won at the Grammys for spitting my grammar, did that for Atlanta / Did that for Atlanta, bruh, swept up like a janitor / Got sent to the slammer, bruh,” he raps in the third verse, reflecting on the incident.
Killer Mike, whose real name is Michael Render, further delves into the experience, rapping, “Treat me like an animal or some kind of Hannibal, vicious and cannibal / The Devil be doing you, right when you doing it, the Devil will ruin you,” alluding to his arrest which occurred immediately after he secured three Grammy awards in rap categories.

He powerfully continues, “Behind me Satan, I walk out the door with my head up in handcuffs with pride / Cause all of my heroes wore handcuffs, the FBI shot some of them, and they died,” recalling the moment he was escorted from the Grammys in handcuffs.
For those unfamiliar with the incident, Killer Mike was taken into custody on Sunday, February 4, after winning Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album. TMZ reported that his arrest followed an “alleged physical confrontation.”
Before releasing “Humble Me,” Killer Mike addressed the arrest during his BET Awards speech in Los Angeles. “Technically, I was not supposed to be here,” he remarked. “But I want to tell you — look at God, because I’m back, baby. I’m back and I’m living.”
