Victoria Monét Shines at 2024 BET Awards

Victoria Monét made a powerful debut on the BET Awards main stage on Sunday, captivating the audience with a performance that highlighted her incredible versatility and talent. The 35-year-old, three-time Grammy winner opened her set with a nostalgic nod to the early 2000s, performing her hit “On My Mama” complete with its iconic choreography.

The “Hollywood” singer-songwriter then shifted gears with a futuristic rendition of her latest track “Alright,” featuring producer Kaytranada. The performance, inspired by the song’s music video released on June 11, showcased Monét’s ability to seamlessly blend past and present musical styles.

This performance marked a significant milestone in Monét’s career, especially after being denied a spot at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. In September, Monét addressed fans’ disappointment on X, saying, “My team was told it is ‘too early in my story’ for that opportunity.” Despite this setback, her career trajectory soared, earning her seven Grammy nominations and three wins for Best New Artist, Best R&B Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical by February.

Monét’s success didn’t stop there. Following her Grammy triumphs, she made her debut at Coachella and lined up performances at major festivals, including Broccoli City Festival, Lollapalooza, and Outside Lands Festival. Additionally, she has been nominated for five BET Awards categories, including Album of the Year and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.

The 2024 BET Awards, which aired live on June 30 from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, celebrated Monét’s significant contributions to the music industry, solidifying her status as a rising star.
