Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the latest iteration of the iconic Golf GTI, the Clubsport, at the prestigious 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. This milestone marks a significant moment in motorsport and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Golf, a legendary model that has left an indelible mark on the automotive world.

The Golf GTI Clubsport is a powerhouse, boasting a 221 kW (300 hp) engine that propels it to a top speed of 165 mph. Its design enhancements are a testament to its aggressive and aerodynamic prowess, featuring a completely redesigned front end, LED Plus headlights, and an illuminated VW logo. The addition of a large roof spoiler and revamped LED tail light clusters further accentuate its dynamic aesthetic.

This high-performance model rides on 19-inch Queenstown alloy wheels, with the option to upgrade to 19-inch Warmenau forged wheels, reducing unsprung mass to enhance performance. Inside, a multifunction leather sports steering wheel and a cutting-edge infotainment system, featuring the IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration, provide a more intuitive and immersive driving experience.

Under the hood, the GTI’s turbocharged EA888 LK3 evo4 engine delivers an impressive 295 lb ft of torque. An electronically controlled front differential lock and optional DCC adaptive chassis control ensure optimal performance, while the Clubsport’s Special driving profile adjusts the DCC to tackle the unique challenges of the Nürburgring, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 5.6 seconds.

The 24-hour race weekend also saw the Max Kruse Racing team compete with a 348 hp Golf GTI Clubsport 24h, alongside three classic first-generation Golf GTIs in the 24h Classic event, celebrating the enduring legacy of the Golf and its impact on motorsport. The Golf GTI Clubsport is a fitting tribute to five decades of innovation, performance, and style, cementing its place as a legendary model in the world of motorsport.
