Ralph Lauren x Navajo Weaver Naiomi Glasses Unveil Third ‘Denim Daydream’ Capsule

image

Naiomi Glasses, the first-ever Artist in Residence for Ralph Lauren, has unveiled her third and final collection for the brand: the “Denim Daydream” capsule. This collection, which serves as a tribute to Navajo rodeo culture, prominently features indigo, reflecting the traditional attire of rodeo participants.

As a seventh-generation Navajo weaver, Glasses has deep roots in her culture. She refers to rodeo as her “first love,” a world she was closely connected to from a young age. Her initial forays into weaving were focused on creating saddle blankets, a foundational skill that has clearly influenced her more recent work. The “Denim Daydream” collection is composed of 27 distinct pieces, spanning men’s, women’s, and unisex garments. Each piece is adorned with traditional Navajo design elements, paying homage to Glasses’ heritage.

Among the collection’s highlights is an indigo jacket inspired by the trophy jackets traditionally awarded to rodeo champions, a nod to the culture that Glasses cherishes. Another standout is a pair of jeans featuring brown suede panels on the front, a unique and thoughtful design choice. The collection also includes denim and blue collared shirts with contrast piping, complemented by cowboy hats and metal belts, offering a complete wardrobe that echoes the rugged yet refined aesthetic of the rodeo.

Further enhancing the collection, Glasses has curated a selection of turquoise and silver jewelry, crafted by artisan families. These pieces are designed to pair seamlessly with the clothing, adding a layer of authenticity and cultural significance.

Ralph Lauren’s Artist in Residence program, which Glasses was a part of, was created to broaden the brand’s portrayal of America and to foster collaborations with communities that have significantly influenced its aesthetic. The Polo Ralph Lauren x Naiomi Glasses “Denim Daydream” collection is a testament to this mission, bringing a rich cultural narrative to the forefront. The collection is now available on Ralph Lauren’s website, offering fashion enthusiasts a chance to own a piece of this unique collaboration.
